Your massage with Amanda at Davis Massage Center will most often begin with 40 minutes on the back, neck and shoulders and will include legs, feet and arms, neck and shoulders. At the beginning she will listen carefully and discuss your specific situation so that your massage can be tailored for your personal needs. Your massage will alternate a medium and deep pressure-- and a very deep massage is always
available.
Trained at the Red Mountain Institute for the Healing Arts in Birmingham, Alabama, Amanda has given hundreds of massages at spas, in-home sessions and Davis Massage Center.
Amanda was born and raised in Auburn, Alabama, holds a degree in Reiki and is a certified yoga instructor, trained locally through Kaya Yoga Studio. When not working, she likes to exercise, read, meditate, dance, travel, and backpack!
Tanya J. Lawrence, CMT is an associate of Davis Massage Center and first completed her training at the Massage Therapy Institute in Davis, Ca. Very inspired by the field of massage, she went on to complete a 675-hour degree at the North Carolina School of Natural Healing in Asheville, which included the study of herbs. Over the years she has acquired a broad range of techniques such as Swedish and deep tissue, shiatsu, Thai, Lomi Lomi, energy work, myofacial , reflexology, range of motion and passive stretching. As a result she is now able to offer clients an integrative style of massage that combines various techniques during each massage. Some clients prefer lighter work and some prefer deep specific therapeutic work and Tanya is at home with either style.
Normally she will begin each massage with the back where many people like some extra attention and then carefully work down to the legs and feet. At this point the client will be asked to roll onto the back for work on the neck and shoulders, arms and hands. This is followed by the front of the legs and down to the feet to stay in tune with energetic flow downwards so that the client will leave the session feeling more grounded and balanced.
Tanya generally will put extra focus on the areas of the client that she feels need the most attention along with any requests or suggestions made by the client. She feels it is important to stay in communication with her clients and will check in to ask if more or less pressure is required. She pays special attention to clients who are sensitive and will never go deeper than what the client describes as their particular threshold of comfort. She also like to incorporate stretching and range of motion movements into many of her massages because this is another effective way to hydrate the tissues and joints which in turn keeps the body young and healthy.
Tanya’s interest and education in massage therapy began almost fourteen years ago when her mother attended massage school while she was still in high school. Around this time she was also mentored by a friend of the family who practiced and taught a massage style known as “Zen body therapy”. In the course of studying with him and her mother, who by now was a “Reiki Master,” Tanya received many body work sessions herself. After spending time at Antioch College in Ohio, Tanya moved to Davis and worked as a nanny for Marion Zingaro, a longtime Davis chiropractor, who was struck by Tanya’s natural healing abilities and compassion and recommended massage school.
When not at work, Tanya can be found gardening, sewing, making jewelry and other crafts, hiking with her dog or at the beach, seeing live music, and playing with her godchildren.
